Hi Everyone! I've really missed posting. It's not for a lack of inspiration. Maybe too much. It was all so easy during my Fashion Royalty era. That time of life was so much fun. Integrity would release a batch, I would go cuckoo for one, I'd purchase. Then I would scour the rest of the collection looking for a companion for the first one. I'd start with the current batch, then I would scour DOLL PAGES (remember that little piece of heaven). Looking for just the right friend. Then I'd purchase that doll, and start creating something special around those two dolls. It only lasted so long though. I was running out of room in my little row house. I wanted to build a FR mansion, but it wasn't logistically feasible. I had to scrap that idea, and just do temporary room settings.
After awhile, I started seeing other things in the doll world. Like Asian Ball Jointed Dolls or ABJD, and 17" resin dolls. Next thing you know, I have three scales competing for my brain. I was hogging the shop table with ABJD stuff and DH couldn't do his stuff. My photo table was housing the resin dolls from last post, and all of my playscales were sadly collecting dust in their bookcases. It can get overwhelming. so... Here I am at the tail end of my staycation, with a lot of relaxing done, I've decided to take a picture of something... anything.
Here are my ABJDs. Magnus and Mimi. During Christmas I bought a grab bag of MSD stuff from Wickedstichery . I think grab bags are a great inexpensive way to build a wardrobe and try out a vendor's stuff. I love the stuff that the owner of Wickedstichery sent for Mimi. It's not supposed to go together, but in the age of the Hipster , anything apparently goes. (Full disclosure, I'm firmly in the GEN X age group, so I may and quite possibly have gotten all of this wrong.) I think she looks really cute with all the mixed patterns. Magnus is wearing skinny pant shorts from Springfield. They produce fashions for 18" American Girl type dolls, but sometimes you get lucky! His hoodie and shoes are from Nine9Style and Tatabjd. I swear I'm not getting paid by any of these people. I hope you enjoy... -Mark SCD
Ps! I'd love to know what scales you guys are into and how you manage your hobby :)

Those ball-jointed dolls remind me of something retro
LOL..I don't manage the large scales very well. So I had to put a limit onto how large could I go. I love the larger scales but my obsession with props, beds, tables and chairs and kitchens and the dolls having to have living spaces and dioramas - well that eventually takes over shelf and storage space so I had to stick to my 1:6 scale people. I have put a limit on my tall people- I love the Tonners and bjd's but I only have two or three that measure 16 inches so they can change props. I have one American girl and sold some of the others. It was getting crowded. My main focus is my 1;6 scale crew of which there are tons of them and even some of them have left the building to make way for more...the props are overflowing as are the dioramas. I have a doll room and two storage units- one climate controlled that acts as my part time studio/part time place where I work on the dioramas and where I store the doll boxes, etc. It really helps. Nuts I know but I also store other items for the house in the other storage unit as our home is small and I don't like the doll boxes all over the place.
Like Lisa, I have stuck with the 1:6 scale. I do have Barbie, Integrity Toys, Momoko, Ruruko, Lammily, Juka Couture, Prettie Girls and Mixis. I also have a couple of dolls on 1:6 scale BJD bodies and have also used a lot of LIV bodies to give my dolls articulation.
My collection also includes many action figures, many of which are kit bashes from Phicen, Hot Toys, COO Model and many other! They are also all 1:6 scale.
I do have 1 AG doll that was my daughter's doll when she was young.
I do love making and having dioramas for my dolls to facilitate taking photos and/or telling stories!
My doll evolution went the opposite direction - I started with BJDs and eventually was drawn into fashion dolls and then play dolls.
As for size, I'm a fan of all the scales! My favourites are always the 1/3 giants, but I like the easier storage and portability of the smaller ones too (I think it was the time I took an EID on a hike-in for photos that I realized that sometimes smaller is better!).
I love hearing about everyone's collecting habits and journeys. It's a crazy thing we do, but we are in good company!
Love the two dolls you posted. I think you are right, those mixed up pieces work really well together. I have all scales, but my main focus is 1/6 scale. However in the past few months I've added a 16 in Elloywne doll, a 16 in Tyler doll, and an 18". So right now I'm just sort of adding dolls I like. No plans to do stories or anything with the larger scales. I will just sew for them.
The scales I collect in are all over the map. I have 18" American Girl and Tonner Miss America, 16" Tonner, 12" Barbie and Ever After High, and a host of lines in the 6"-8" range. Fortunately, I have room to mostly display what I have. When I temporarily lose interest in one line, I pick up interest in another.
Hi !
I am happy to discover your blog.
You have a nice collection.
See you soon.
I love how naturally you've posed your ABJDs. They seem suitable dressed ... the way I would imagine kids and teens would dress.
Mostly, I collect 1:6 scale fashion dolls and action figures. I have a few childhood dolls that are larger scaled (Ideal's Chrissy, Kerry, 2 Mias, Hasbro's Aimee, Shindana 12-13" baby doll, etc.) I like seeing other sizes, but I actively buy only playscale 'cause I can get a lot of them. And I can handle them more easily than the larger dolls. But I do enjoy seeing the other sizes online ;-)
Thanks for sharing and for asking.
Thank you all for such interesting comments! It is nice to hear how we all go about this crazy hobby of ours 😀
